Christmas Stocking Filler Ideas

Christmas can be a very challenging and stressful time for parents when money is in short supply. Many parents feel that they have failed in some way when they have to say to their children that Santa probably can't afford that particular present this year because the elves are also caught up in this world financial crises and there's not enough money to buy enough ingredients to make all those things this year.

Don't let the kids asking for things you can't honestly afford to buy them for presents get you down. That is not what Christmas is about, never has been or ever will be. Christmas is a time to give gifts with love, not with the thought that you are going to be 'in hock' for the next six months to pay for something. Christmas is a time of love and sharing the good things in life and those 'good things' aren't often about expensive presents.

Christmas stockings need to be filled with love and joy, not 'whiz-bang gadgets' that get put aside as soon as the next present comes along. The kids will rarely remember any of those gifts but what they will always remember is the way in which they were given

If you give with love it will always be remembered for the rest of their lives.

How do you give love in a Christmas stocking? Easy ~ fill it with thoughtful little inexpensive items that are fun, tasty, pretty, different, funny or really related to a special interest they have in something. If the child is old enough to read then find a special book in a book exchange library that they have enjoyed or buy them comics instead of books.

If you have 2-3 children, you don't have to give the kids full packets of sweets/candies/lollies each; get a bunch of packets, mix them all together in a big bowl and sprinkle them among pretty, coloured cellophane paper that you have added into the stocking to 'bulk' it out. As the kids pull out the stocking filler and hear the crinkling, cracking and see the candies/lollies/sweets fall out from between the sheets of paper, they 'feel' that they have received presents.

And once they see how well packed it is with thoughtful little 'bits-n-pieces', they will know that "Santa" spent time to do that for them and so they know it was done with love. This is the truly irreplaceable, always remembered gift.

Bathing Suits for Women

If a woman ever lets you see her standing in her bedroom either in a bathing suit or in her pantyhose, you know then that you have reached the extremely trusted stage of your relationship.

Many women feel uncomfortable in a bathing suit mainly because they don't have a positive image of themselves. Women can be their own worst enemies in this regard probably because they are far too critical of themselves. Most women are aware of their own imperfections and certainly don't need a reminder from a partner.

When a woman puts on a bathing suit she is exposing more of her body for all to see and feels extremely vulnerable. If you are a partner who feels the need to remind her of her imperfections please be aware this will not endear you to her and it only makes the problem worse with no guarantee of a fix. Do you like being reminded of your shortcomings? No, well neither does she, so "do unto others as you would have others do for you" is a pretty good motto to remember.

Women have the choice to wear a one piece swimsuit, a two piece swim suit or a bikini. The difference between a two-piece swim suit and a bikini is the quantity of material used. A two piece swim suit is not as revealing as a bikini and covers a larger area of the body where a bikini is a small swim suit exposing larger areas of flesh to public view.

A two piece swimsuit usually has a bigger pants section covering closer to the waistline and often has a short-type leg. The bra section is wider and covers a larger area of the breast. This type of swimsuit tends to suit larger women better because the bra section has better support for breasts which means they are more comfortable to wear all day.

A one piece swim suit suits the mature figure better because it is usually much more flattering. As women get older, body shape changes and even with constant care and exercise, the mature female body will never revert back to a girlish figure that looks quite stunning in an 'itsy-bitsy-tweenie-weenie' bikini. That’s just the way life is, so for women to feel more comfortable in a bathing suit it helps your self perception if you dress appropriately for it.

Women Wearing Stockings Today

Stockings are one of those items of clothing that is slowly fading into the dim past. Today many office workers don't bother to 'dress up' to go to work like they did 30 years ago. Today in most office environments you see men and women in jeans and tee-shirts or most women will wear a blouse but the days seem to have passed when the majority of women wore stockings, girdles, skirts and blouses or a dress.

Is this a by-product of the women's movement? Perhaps a bit but I also think it is largely because of the economic times we live in today.

A pair of nice stockings is expensive and most women today only 'dress up' for special occasions. Personally, I think us women have short-changed ourselves in this way and I feel that many men think so too.

Once upon a time when a man was the bread winner in a household he used to enjoy seeing his wife all dressed up and used to feel proud that he was able to provide her with nice clothes; and he was the lucky bloke who was married to her. I know, that is very old fashioned thinking but I'm lucky enough to be one of those women who remembers.

On the upside the stockings of today are considerably more comfortable and durable than they were in times gone by. Today's stockings have had a technology revolution, probably about the same time as the women's movement gained momentum. Today an average pair of stockings can be purchased with the groceries but a non-standard pair of stockings is also more expensive but more readily available to those who have the disposable income to buy them.

So all women who want to wear stockings today need to educate our menfolk to take us to the nearest lingerie shop and buy us a pair of nice stockings for those special types of occasions. Alternatively, we could invite them to measure our legs and buy us a pair off the Internet?

Nylon Stocking Toes

Have you ever thought about why most 'average cost' women's stockings have that double thickness around the toe section of the foot?

Yes, it does add comfort to toes particularly if the shoes are a bit too tight but there is a more important reason. And that's because many women do not give themselves a pedicure often enough to keep their toenails trimmed and cared for!

On the other side of the coin (or foot) I have seen some women's toenails that a falcon or hawk would carry with pride. Talk about either end of the scales. But basically, that double layer of fabric around the toes is to stop toenails from making a hole in your stockings.

Once a hole has formed at the toes of a pair of stockings you virtually have at most one more wearing before having to throw them out. You can only get that wearing out of them though if you are prepared to put up with a bit of discomfort because your toes get tangled in the hole and it hurts.

Not much ruins a pair of stockings faster than unkempt toenails. They either snag the stocking when putting them on or the toenail cuts through the fine fabric like a knife. Apart from the discomfort of the long toenails in shoes, even open toed sandals, long toenails become very painful when worn enclosed in shoes all day.

Have you also noticed the other thing about that double fabric around the toes? Sometimes if you buy a cheap pair of stockings the manufacturer has put a seam in there and after a day's wearing, this seam has cut into toes quite fiercely and one gets very footsore by the end of the day particularly if you have had to be on your feet all day.

I believe we should punish such cruel manufacturers by (a) not buying any more of their cheap and nasty product and (b) we should make him/her wear a pair of their own stockings all day.

I'm sure you've heard the story about "walking a mile in the other person's shoes…"

Mature Women in Nylon Stockings

Mature women who wear nylon stockings today grew up in an era of hats, gloves, and nylon stockings.  I remember when nylon first came out and my Mum bought her first pair. Oh, they felt so lovely and silky soft.

Back in those days a lady always wore a corset (sometimes called a girdle depending which country you come from) and these held the stockings up by  suspenderst with crocodile type clips. These blasted things were unbelievably uncomfortable! How would you like having to sit on metal clips digging into the back of your legs?

Perhaps its just the era that they grew up in, or perhaps it is now that they can afford the total luxury of super fine fabrics, but either way, many of our mature women today are the ones who wear the best nylon stockings.

But it's not the nylon that they grew up with because technology has taken over the womens stockings industry the same as everywhere else, and the majority of the fine stocking silkyness now comes from a product called spandex. Which, as a stockings wearer, I can assure you is immeasurably more comfortable than the original nylon material used.

Black Seamed Stockings and Girdles

I’ve got a question for you. If you had to wear any seamed stockings, whether they are black, beige or whatever, held up by a girdle, would you do it? No, I didn’t really think you would. I don’t hold it against you. Most people today have more common sense.

Well, I once used to wear seamed stockings and a girdle every day and I kept it up for about ten years until I started to live in the Tropics. Then I realised that if I kept wearing all those clothes, I was going to pass out from heatstroke!

Seamed stockings are hard enough to wear at the best of times because trying to keep the seam running straight up the back of your leg without it screwing off to the side is near impossible. Every time you sit down the girdle slips a little higher and pulls the stocking around and out of shape. Then when you stand up again you can’t exactly get hold of it and pull everything back into place and shape. So off to the ladies room you have to go.

So off I’d go to the Ladies room and pull and twist everything back into shape again. Come to think of it, I really did spend a lot of time in a ladies room wherever I seemed to go. My dates at the time probably thought I had some sort of bladder problem ~

But it was simply the discomfort of those seamed stockings and that wretched girdle. It wouldn’t matter what colour the stockings were, black or whatever shade of beige we chose because they were really the only colours available back then.

The colour didn’t affect the behaviour of those stockings it was the girdle that hurt and the seamed stockings that looked untidy all the time.

You see, the only way to get the seam to run straight up the back of your leg was to unhook them from the suspenders in the girdle and take the stocking right back down again. The twisting and turning trying to run the seam straight up the back of your leg would have made any acrobat proud.

Yet women used to do it several times a day. The convolutions and contortions that we used to put our bodies through just to get that seam straight would have made any circus owner proud. But it had to be done because back in those days, grooming was considered to be a very important part of our social acceptability. Badly groomed women were frowned upon severely.

In fact, if you were perceived as being badly groomed, you were virtually ostracised from society because no one wanted to be seen even knowing you in case it was catching. Having those seams straight at all times and always wearing a girdle was considered essentials to a woman’s self-respect.

These days it’s just plain sexy to wear seamed black stockings and a girdle but it’s far more pleasant to get them off.

Who was Your Stockings Teacher?

Can you remember the first pair of stockings that you got? I do, vividly.

I got my first pair of nylon stockings as a part of my Christmas present from my Mother. I was so excited. You see, what it really meant was that my Mum now thought I was grown up enough to use nylon stockings instead of socks. It was a big moment in my life.

The other parts of my present that year from my Mum was a lipstick (very pale pink), some nail polish (also pale pink) and a nice dressing table (vanity table) set of brush, comb and hand-held mirror. Which, by the way, I still have and use today. The bristles in the hair brush are pigs bristle and quite expensive to buy today.

Here in Australia, Christmas always falls in the summer time and the day after Christmas, Boxing Day, we always went to the coast for our annual holiday. But this year for the first time, I had a pair of nylon stockings to wear to the dances that we used to go to every night. I felt so grown up and as chuffed as a rat with a gold tooth.

I will never forget putting my first ever pair of nylon stockings on for the first time. My Mum came and showed me how to roll the nylon stocking down between my thumb and fingers to the toes so I could just slip the stocking gently around and over my toes, and use my thumb and fingers to roll them up to my suspender belt.

I already had a suspender belt from having to wear those brown seamed stockings in the New England winter and gee whiz, they were uncomfortable. They never seemed to stay in one place and the suspender belt used to slip around and hobble me something terrible. But I guess young ladies weren’t meant to play soccer in stockings so that was probably why they were so uncomfortable.

But these new, as yet un-laddered, nylon stockings made me feel so grown up and attractive. And my Mum made me feel so good because she kept telling me that she was proud of me and how nice I looked. And my new pale pink lipstick and nail polish was just the icing on the cake.

Without my Mum there as my stockings Teacher showing me how to care and adjust my nylon stockings to be comfortable, I may not have ever made it to the dance in a pair of un-laddered stockings. She taught me how to grow into my new nylon stockings and feel proud of how they made me look.

Warm Regards,
Jan
