Many women feel uncomfortable in a bathing suit mainly because they don't have a positive image of themselves. Women can be their own worst enemies in this regard probably because they are far too critical of themselves. Most women are aware of their own imperfections and certainly don't need a reminder from a partner.
When a woman puts on a bathing suit she is exposing more of her body for all to see and feels extremely vulnerable. A one piece swim suit suits the mature figure better because it is usually much more flattering. As women get older, body shape changes and even with constant care and exercise, the mature female body will never revert back to a girlish figure that looks quite stunning in an 'itsy-bitsy-tweenie-weenie' bikini. That’s just the way life is, so for women to feel more comfortable in a bathing suit it helps your self perception if you dress appropriately for it.
